Betty & Henri (& Me) begins with veteran filmmaker Doug Block's latest documentary 112 Weddings having just premiered on HBO. Their vast marketing machine has been heavily promoting him as a love expert, which is somewhat ironic given his 30-year marriage isn't exactly in the best of places. At 62, Doug is at a career and life crossroads, feeling unmoored and wondering what the future holds for him. In this state of uncertainty and angst, he and his wife Marjorie travel to Paris for a much-needed landmark anniversary celebration.
Setting out for a walk one morning, a passionate, decades-old love letter falls from the pages of their used travel book with only first names revealed: Betty and Henri. Doug is, by nature, a skeptical person, but several astonishing coincidences involved in both the letter’s content and the timing of its discovery leads him to believe it was meant for him to find, and, little by little, he drops everything to track down the mystery couple.
Playing amateur detective fills him with renewed purpose, and he meets a wide array of fascinating characters and leading experts in their fields. But for Doug there is far more to his quest than simply figuring out the identities of Betty and Henri, that underneath he’s looking to answer questions about himself, his marriage and his legacy. And, in the process, the so-called love expert may just rediscover the true meaning of love.
“Like all good mysteries, this one features an elusive woman, a love affair and a random stranger who gets swept up in the story.”

“Little did he know the letter would mark the beginning of a globe-spanning quest, an international labor of love celebrating Paris and the enduring power of romance.”
